Sexual harrassment

http://www.equalrights.org/publications/kyr/shwork.asp

Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination. The legal definition of sexual harassment is “unwelcome verbal, visual, or physical conduct of a sexual nature that is severe or pervasive and affects working conditions or creates a hostile work environment.” This is the definition given to sexual harrassment by the website above. I have been in a work enviroment where someone in an upper management position was making many of his female employees uncomfortable with inappropriate comments. A bank employee even complained about him when he would come to make deposits. Some of the complaints were investigated but he was officially terminated for something performance related. Many of the female employees didn't even make complaints because of the stigma attached with taking that course of action. I wonder how many times this same scenario happens in workplaces across the country? Obviously, there is still something lacking in sexual harrassment education for this to occur.

  1. Probably more than anyone would want. But when there are differences in power which are traditional, it makes it even harder. It is interesting that you point out that there is a stigma associated with making a complaint. That too is part of the problem.
